Kat Hicken – Founder RockWater Creative

Founder of RockWater Creative

With over 25 years of experience spanning healthcare, technology, and strategic transformation, Kat brings a unique perspective to creative consulting and brand strategy at RockWater Creative.

Her career began as a clinical midwife, where she spent ten years developing deep empathy for human experiences and mastering the art of guiding people through pivotal moments. Transitioning into change and project management, she orchestrated complex technical and infrastructure initiatives within the NHS and other large scale organisations for another decade, leading large-scale multi organisational transformation that required careful stakeholder buy-in and cultural adaptation.

She collaborated with leading healthcare technology companies including Cerner, Philips, Emis, and SystemOne, while engaging diverse stakeholders from health commissioners to the general public, skillfully managing resistance to change and facilitating smooth technology adoption across multiple departments.

This experience taught her how to navigate intricate systems, build consensus among competing interests, and deliver meaningful outcomes under pressure, while developing expertise in change readiness assessments, communication strategies, and sustainable implementation practices that ensured long-term organisational success.

Her expertise expanded through management roles in the private mental health and wellbeing sector, where she gained invaluable insights into creating supportive environments that foster growth and resilience.

Driven by a passion for human-centered design, she has expanded to include UX/UI skills that complement her strategic approach. She specialises in helping purpose-led organisations understand their ethos and values, then translating these into compelling visions that meaningfully include their target audiences. Her focus on sustainable infrastructure and community reflects her belief that truly effective solutions must be both environmentally responsible, enduringly functional, and co-created with all stakeholders.
